Excerpt from briefing.com on the Santa Clause rally:

We hear a lot of talk on the street about a Santa Clause rally. Is there really such a thing?

Yes, there really is. While different studies show varying results, the point of them all is that stocks have a tendency to score good gains from a bottom in the October/November timeframe through the first quarter of the following year. This is one of the reasons we're giving the bulls the benefit of the doubt, longer term. Shorter term, we wouldn't be surprised to see stocks consolidate or correct a bit in an effort to digest their recent gains. But it is important for investors to pay attention and remain flexible. It's easy to forget about your investments this time of year, and we don't think it's the right time to be asleep at the wheel. Know exactly why you're in a position, and always have an exit strategy. Then stick to it.
