A big thing that attracted me to CREE was the idea that they are attacking the existing order not by improvements in technology , but by the laws of physics. By this it was meant that there are physical limits to present doped silicon technology concerning temperature and other limitations. These limitations can't be overcome with clever engineering. For instance the high temperatures that SIC can tolerate. Reminds me a bit of what QCOM was doing in the past.
