Very little hyperbole- all you need to do is look at the growth rate of the human population, and compare it with the growth rates of other species. Of course rates and parasites and flies and dogs and cats and other creatures that live off our civilization do very well- but there isn't a lot of diversity there. Although life is very enjoyable here in the Western world- it is pretty clearly unsustainable ESPECIALLY if the rest of the world wants to consume like we do. All you need to do is look at one or two metrics- world fisheries, and world timber- to realize that the natural riches of the planet are disappearing at a much faster rate than they can be replenished. Unsustainable growth leads to crashes in populations- that is what population curves are all about. Did you take any biology? Ever?
