This really contradicts what I have read (and heard). Is this a case of lying with statistics or something? Maybe the
book business is 19% over last year, but overall I think its impossible...?

Liz,

I do not have the facts on sales there although have heard from analysts they are not great through daily reports. Blodgett is one. In any case, if Amazon's core book business is only up 19% year over year, that is terrible.

The e-commerce firms growing a lot this year are Toyrus.com (although they do not have adequater server capacity, etoys.com, CDNow, Macys.com, Landsend.com, 800flowers.com and a few others. I have heard Amazon is doing well in their electronics sales but that is not making up for the poor growth in the video, music and books.
