Here's some info on the DVD problem if you're interested. If they're ever able to keep the hackers from cracking it, it'll be a miracle. Same deal with FatBrain's e-matter concept. If you believe what Schneier says about it, trying to secure digital content from copyright violation is impossible.

Ron & William: Agree. Rick Dalmazzi, the President, in his opening statement on the Conference Call mentioned "explicitly" that there were two deals signed in the "content data security" new product line. Later in response to an analyst question (think Scotia Capital's RG) to define content data security, he stated that the new area includes large file transfers like audio, video and large software file transfer over the internet.

Whether the deals are with Cinram, Sony or MP 3 or whoever-- 'god knows'. My bet would be that the initial ones would be a data one and an audio/video one in order to claim squatters rights to both exploding areas.

Whatever way you cut it-- the winner is CIC with "ECC Inside" as the logo for (one of) our favourite company(s) says.

The other is, of course, DMX on tse. That thread is here on SI.

DVD delay was only for audio players. In some of the news reports Pioneer who recently annouced their DVD recorder said it was still due in I believe first quarter (may have even said January). I follow Sonic Solutions which is a very speculative play on DVD authoring software. They are in the midst of a transition to new products which could pay off well long term.
