V., thank you for your thoughtful & articulate post!
It was good to hear from you again! Please drop in on the thread more often, as we've missed you around here. And, as you are one of the "original 100" GNET "longs," your posts I've always found to be highly intelligent comments worth pondering.
As you have, I have also have found that, "this thread shows a lot of community, friendliness, and warmth," as well as providing a wealth of information regarding GNET's past, present, and future. Almost everyone who posts here brings a little something different to the table. I truly appreciate and enjoy the wide range ideas as well as "facts" posted on this GNET board.
As I'm primarily a "long term" investor (which for me is 1-5 years), I tend to focus my investment attention to a company's "fundamentals" (things like the quality of management team, vision for the future, motivation, business plan, growth potential, cash flow & reserves, profits, market sector competition, acquisitions, mergers, partnerships, etc...). However, I do very much appreciate those who do the day-to-day "Technical Analysis" (TA) that is done by many others who post on this board on a regular basis. It often helps explain the relatively short term (and sometimes "long" term) movements and fluctuations of a stock. It also often gives some daily "energy" to the boards. I learn much from the many TA experts (and novices) who post here, and wish to thank you all for you many contributions.
And, without doubt sometimes the "sense of family" and friendship found here (as well great enthusiasm by most posters for this outstanding company), leads many us to sometimes get a little chatty, over-exurberant, and to stray way "off-topic." I've certainly been guilty of this from time to time. This is usually fairly short-lived, unless it's a "major" celebration (such as a stock split).
I welcome everyone's point of view on this board regarding GNET (both pro and con) as long as their thoughts are sincere, they are "respectiveful" of fellow posters, and either they truly want "learn" something about the company, offer their point of view, or just comment on the company. We are each free to take what we want (or need) from the huge pool of thoughts & information posted here, and disregard the rest.
Every so often someone comes to a board just to be troublemaker. The yahoo boards are notorious for these types of posters. They immediately start insulting the board in general, personally attacking other posters, and dumping on the company (offering little or no supporting facts or information whatsoever). Usually they don't hang around long. IMO, these type of people often seem to desperately need the attention (albeit negative) that they draw to themselves. As a psychology student in my "salad days," we were taught a bit about the reasons this occurs. One explanation is that "negative" attention was the only real love(?) (or touching) they received as children from their parents. Thus, being "bad" at least draws "some" attention to them (they got spanked or beaten). Thankfully, these types of people and their posts are still relatively rare here on SI for several reasons: 1) high intelligence of the posters; 2) membership is not "free"; 3) they're rantings & insults are generally "ignored"; 4) the fairly strict SI membership "Terms of Use; and of course (last but not least) 4) good old SI (Admin) Bob is always out there lurking somewhere (if our gentle "self-policing" doesn't seem to work).
There are many ways to disagree, without being disagreeable. However IMO, name-calling (ie: moron, stupid fool etc...), and racist, sexist, harrassing, or personal insults are NEVER appropriate on these boards.
By far, the vast majority of people who are part of our SI community I've found to be highly intelligent, motivated to learn and/or teach, very respectful of the opinions of others, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind. . .(oh sorry, I was slipping back to my Boy Scout days there for a moment). <gg>
Sorry, I didn't intend for this to be so long, but thanks again V. for your wonderfully thoughtful post, and keep in touch. I hope you are doing well. (send me a PM if you get a chance)!
Roger #49 :)
