Maurice,
Why would anyone license Qualcomm's CDMA patents for IS-95?

Because they had to.

The same will apply to the Q if they use GSM. They must license with Interdigital to use that technology. You speak of Nokia and the Q getting together on it, and Nokia has the right to say OK you can use our GSM.

I must admit I'm very disappointed with your response to my original post because you blew by everything. I provided facts and asked for opinions on them. This is no longer the Frezza forum debating CDMA versus TDMA/GSM.

This is a real issue which long timers like you should be able to read into and do what's best. CDMA was to eliminate everything on the planet and just may do so but not next week. How is it Qualcomm feels the need to get involved and offer GSM dual mode and you don't look to see who has a foot hold on that IPR? Isn't that what gave you your drive and motivated you to stay with the Q?

How is it that Siemens/Alcatel/Phillips all challenged IDC's patent in the German Supreme Court and have all withdrawn from the appeal making the patent valid?

As much as you should know about this area which I think you do I'll assume you posted that in haste.

Have you been drinking seawater? How is it that Nokia has an agreement with IDC for GSM and you think the Q doesn?t have to?

Do you think anything at all is pending on the results of the Ericy versus IDC case in Texas? Didn?t the Q and ERICY settle at the Markman hearing after the Q announced the got the Intent to issue a reexamination certificate from the patent office?

The company itself (Qualcomm) has recognized the need to be involved in the GSM market and yet you guys still think it?s a holy war. With IS-95 being outnumbered 8 to 1 it will be a long time before GSM goes away. With digital handsets just out selling analog it 1998 it will be a very long time before 3-G products out sell 2-G products.
