ATHM benefits from this deal, T would not screw ATHM until exclusivity deals are ended, otherwise they would be hit with a big lawsuit. Similarly, they are not going to screw themselves, as they own ATHM too.

Likely T is taking the middle road, ATHM will separate content from broadband internet acccess, T will position ATHM as the company to go through to get to that cable inside everyone's house. T makes money (via ATHM) from other cable companies too.

Mindspring brings alot of customers to T, that's what T wants, and that is good for T in competition with the other cable companies.

Mindspring does not get this for free, they will still have to give some dollars to T/ATHM per subscriber, let's say $5 per month. ATHM will get less per subscriber than if they were the entire ISP, but they will get that many more subscribers.

ATHM exclusivity goes on for the next few years. If their marketing has not gotten x number of holdouts from MSPG by then, then this deal will be the icing on the cake to bring them to ATHM.

ATHM will have at least 10M subscribers, and triple the number of subscribers of MSPG by the time MSPG gets anywhere near T's cables.

ATHM stock price should be triple by that time also.
