I knew T would pull this...
T is not "pulling" anything, though the market may see it that way.

The exclusivity agreement with ATHM has a finite lifetime and only the severely naive thought that they would stay exlusive after that point.

AT&T has already stated that they will likely be open to other ISP's after the exclusivity agreements expire. This is just further proof in the direction that government regulated "open access" (which I feel would have destroyed cable internet and ATHM) is not necessary.

ATHM will get competition. ATHM needs competition. The market is capable of grasping the concept eventually.

Even though it is not directly comparable take a look at NSOL after they lost their monopoly.

MM, More a slight of hand, brilliant gamesmanship move from Mr. Armstrong. Not as bad as it really seems.

He gave away nothing but a stated promise to open the pipe in 2 1/2 years...already known. He did the deal with Mindspring and NOT AOL!

With the lead ATHM has already chances are athm will cut provision deals if they get their *homestead* acreage up and running within the allotted timeframe. With billions at stake for the architecture investment who really wants to reinvent that wheel?

I've been reading like crazy and am less concerned the more I know. A day is a long time. Tomorrow this could fly around and be at any spectrum by days end. In time, with good execution from athm it certainly is anything but an execution from T to athm.
