I don't think limited bandwidth is going to be a major limiter in this case. A very important detail that you are overlooking is that if T gets to "open" the way they choose the access vs. doing it by a government mandate they can do it in far more controlled ways.

Likely they will simply give MSPG a frequency of their own. By then ATHM will probably have two or three. Problem solved without a great deal of headache and without the need for the Salt Lake architecture- though the upstream is still a non-trivial sticky issue.

Yes there may be more efficient uses of the bandwidth, but I'll bet they take the easy and "clean" way out.
