To all :

All I am hearing is how great this is for athm and how aol is getting "chopped at the knee's"...or "this spells doom for aol".

You folks are too funny.....who are you trying to convince? Sounds alot like yall are trying to convince yourselves. ATHM opens down big.....aol opens up.

Am I missing something here ?

Folks, I like athm, don't get me wrong...in fact, I am long athm ( also very long aol ), but I am amazed at how many folks are missing the big picture...or living in a cloud.

AOL will prosper....athm will if they work a deal with aol...if not, they will be road kill. Anybody thinking that ATHM is the king of high speed access is severely mistaken. AOL will eat their lunch...it is not even worth discussing. Bottom line is this....The pipes will eventually be open to all......T will work a deal with aol...they are not foolish. ATHM is pitiful at content, not to mention many other things. They need AOL...They can join forces with aol and all their eyeballs or they can battle against aol. If they do, they will lose. T knows this....they are doing this deal with mindspring several reasons...it shows the feds they are willing to open the pipes...it lays a model for others to follow...mainly aol. This deal with mindspring is simply more proof that they will eventually do a deal with aol...they are posturing themselves for better bargaining power with aol.

In closing...I am sure I will catch some flack about this post...no need for anybody to respond. I know all you folks can give me a zillion reasons why they wont do a deal with aol and don't need aol.....The fact of the matter is...al we have are opinions....we won't know who is correct until after the fact, so lets wait and let history dictate a winner.

Oh yea.....did I mention I am long athm, so I don't want to hear anybody tell me I have an agenda...my only agenda is for athm to do whatever they need to to suceed.....they need aol.
