DataDirect Networks' Celestra-Ready SAN Software Management Tools Are Expected to Accelerate Adoption of Storage Area Networks in the Marketplace
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 1999--
DataDirect's Highly Scalable Enterprise-Class SAN Infrastructure Technology, Management Tools To Be Available Through Celestra Protocol
In its continuing focus on providing Storage Area Networking (SAN) users with better access to stored data across multiple platforms, DataDirect Networks Inc. will broaden its SAN software data management solutions through participation in Legato's Celestra Consortium.
Since the inception of SANs, DataDirect has introduced a series of innovative software, hardware and architectural firsts to advance highly scalable SAN data access to business and industry. By providing its SAN software management solutions to consortium members that utilize the Celestra protocol in their products, DataDirect will help speed adoption of SANs by bringing needed management capabilities to the evolving technology.
DataDirect also expects this alliance to incrementally extend its SAN network infrastructure technology penetration into more open system environments.
The Celestra Consortium was created by Legato as a forum to facilitate advancement of open technology and is composed of leading SAN and Fibre Channel companies that are committed to open and integrated architectures that deliver robust, cost-effective Storage Area Network solutions. Members of the group include Ancor, Brocade, Compaq, Computer Associates, EMC, Gadzoox, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, NEC, Siemens, SGI, Sun Microsystems and Vixel, among others.
"Our commitment to taking an open systems approach allows the widest possible audience to utilize our SAN technologies and solutions," Robert Woolery, senior director of strategic business, DataDirect Networks, said.
"Our new alliance will extend our solutions and management tools to a broader range of vendors through the Celestra protocol, allowing consortium members to utilize DataDirect SAN solution tools to provide a central point of SAN management across the enterprise -- consolidating storage and management, lowering total cost of ownership and increasing data availability."
The new Celestra alliance is in line with DataDirect's efforts to work for open, common standards in the SAN industry. The company has made a firm commitment to creating open system solutions to encourage SAN adoption.
With this latest agreement, DataDirect is poised to share information gathered from its highly scalable SAN installations in diverse, demanding industries including Internet content provisioning, digital imaging and government applications through the Celestra protocol to create additional open systems standards and interoperability solutions.
"The SAN industry needs access to the robust next-generation management solutions that DataDirect brings to the consortium, and the inclusion of these tools will drive our goals of delivering the optimum SAN solutions now and in the future," Kent Smith, executive vice president of strategic alliances, Legato Systems, said.
"Celestra Consortium members, representing the leading SAN vendors in the market today, are focused on facilitating the movement of SANs from the planning stages to full implementation, and their efficient applications, will be key to broad industry acceptance."
