Louis Mazzucchelli, Gerard Klauer Matteson, Sector Spotlight, PC Industry-
AAPL, GTW, CPQ, HWP, PSFT, SAP, BAANF, DELL.

PC makers should have good quarter or two. These are the hot consumer
quarters in US. AAPL, GTW, part of CPQ and HWP's business are
consumer-related, consumer operations doing well.

Worldwide demand still strong overall.

Weakness in corporate buying, some companies waiting until after first of the
year. Stocks still benefiting on knowledge that buying will start again soon.

Component situation is interesting, seeing shortages would not normally see.
Capacitors for example. Some companies trying to build ahead, spiked
demand, should go away and will see falloff.

See easing starting to happen mid-to-late Q1. Not everyone will buy right after
the first of the year. However, is some pent-up demand.

Some large-scale software companies (PSFT, SAP, BAANF) got hurt because
products take so long to install, many companies did not want to be in the
middle of the installation during Y2K.

Huge offset of that were retailers scrambling to get e-commerce strategy on-line
before Christmas. Much new spending for e-commerce.

In US, low 50% saturation of computers in the home. PC is now a
communications device—like TV's or phones, can expect the saturation to go in
the 90% range.

Has Buy rating on AAPL, DELL, GTW. They focus. Good time to be a consumer
supplier. Demand has not abated and will not abate anytime soon. People want
to be on the Internet.

CPQ interesting problem but big problem. Would like to see them accelerate
job cuts, cut back on VMS support, and move quicker in support of notebook and
desktop PC's. If they do those things, he will be interested.
