Sector, I think you have stretched too far there. Tsui is a solid state physicist. He certainly has the chops to follow anything MRVC is doing in semiconductors or optics, though. Since we are living in quantum mechanics land, everything is either divided easily up in to quantum levels, or you can play odd games to make intermediate steps using beat patterns. Same thing in radio communications with sidebands. WebDrone (Bob, watcha think? Me just enjeneer grade "kitchen" physicist.)
