Michael: The fact that I bought CPQ at $19 7/8ths $20 1/4 a few weeks ago and even a few last Friday at $25 7/8ths shows that I believe that CPQ is in a long-term uptrend. I intend to trade in and out as I always have. I do not agree with some of your historical judgements especially about the efficacy of Rosen interventions. But I do agree that the economies forced on COMPAQ by the market, which slashed its share price by nearly 65%, will bring direct benefits to the bottom line. I would feel better if I knew that the lay-offs and other economies were being executed promptly and wonder why we have had no recent news about that. But when the economies do start happening - and my guess is that the big impact will come in 2Q - then I can see the earnings growing exponentially to double the current $1 which is the average of current expectations. Assuming continued efficiencies I can see 2001 also being a good year so that the share price at the end of 2000 should be in excess of $60.

If it is not and COMPAQ Board and management flounder, again, then the CMGI holdings, the 20% Alta Vista holdings and the cash hoard might attract a takeover from a company which can make better use of the assets.

coach says he talked to IR and they said that the quiet period starts dec.
15th. so we should be hearing some announcements soon. seems like we've
been getting news on tuesdays recently so maybe something tomorrow.
capellas said 3-4 big bold announcements before the end of the year. i would
imagine that one will be the "radical looking" new "prowler", one will be a
change in distribution and maybe something about a partnership for the
"clipper" just guesses. (i can't remember if the cable and wireless deal was
considered one of the announcements or not) i guess it will be another wait
and see if the street likes it thing though, you never know. i don't think
compaq knew the iPaq would be so hot, but people seem to like it. this
stock is definately under accumulation and they are working it to keep the
price from going up too fast so they can continue getting it at these prices
because when it goes, it's going to take off and they know it. if the street
starts hearing anything good they will all jump on the bandwagon with
upgrades and press and drive it up. i don't think they will until we have some
big news or break 30. we've had a huge gap to fill at 30 and i think they have
been trying to shake the weak hands out at a lower price to eat away at that
so we can move through it easier. again, JMHO, she
