I almost paid a guy to build me a hybrid auto about 15 years ago. . .Electric to 35 mph, then diesel. . .with 5 generators [alternators]. . .one attached to each wheel. . .and the usual one to the flywheel on the engine. This is such a practical and simple idea. . .and should have been in every garage by the 60's. . . but the oil companies made sure that didn't happen.

The only reason these car manufacturers are building a VERY LIMITED SUPPLY of hybrid vehicles at all, is the pressure that has been coming down by the U.S. govt. . .EPA, etc. . . for auto manufacturers to be in compliance with new regs by introducing more fuel efficient models by a certain date. Left alone, they never would have released them. I expect to see more. . . but with no standardization whatsoever. .. .if you standardize it, then it becomes a force to be reckoned with. . . however by keeping the "new tech" divided and under a shroud, it can never gain the popular vote.

We should have had fuel cell cars by the early 80's. . . and what ever happened to SOLAR aided vehicles. . . .they have tiny photo-electric cells nowadays that can convert residual light into electricity, then by using a step-up type transformer. . .can provide plenty of power to drive the vehicle and store more in reserve. . . .placed in a hybrid car with a 2 or 3 cylinder engine, the fuel savings would be ridiculous. . . not to mention the cleanliness of the burn.

Then there are the countless inventions that sit in vaults in the R&D division of major auto makers and oil companies. . . .brilliant ideas gone to waste.

And yes, folks should give up their Lincoln Navigators right away. . . .and it just so happens I am starting a collection of them. . . .perfect for driving a half dozen teenagers to the movies. . . my address is available upon request. . . <g>
