DJ Cisco To Build Backbone Network For Philippine Telephone

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) agreed to provide equipment to Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., a large Asian telecommunications company, to upgrade its infrastructure and develop a new backbone network.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

In a press release Monday, Cisco Systems said its Fujitsu Philippines Inc. partner will deploy switches, multiservice-access concentrators and remote-access servers for the new OC-12 network.

The network will allow Philippine Long Distance to offer integrated data, voice and video services, Cisco Systems said.

Cisco Systems, a maker of equipment and software for computer networks, said its multiservice switching technology enables Internet protocol to run over frame relay or asynchronous transfer mode, known as ATM, systems.
