"Follow the money" regarding HDR. Many of us can look back and find similarities to the FUD on on the implementation of cdma for voice services (remember the chip rate discussion for voice (yawn)).

From the operators perspective, there is a compelling reason for them to adapt HDR and thus I agree with slacker that the operators will ultimately clamor for HDR. I really like what qcom is doing in Korea with HDR. When operators begin to see what "can be" with data they will see the relationship to their cash registers.

The US operators have a "low risk-high payoff" opportunity with HDR. The good news is from a timing standpoint qcom's HDR is ready, willing and able to create a defacto standard with data.

Steve Malsin your comments below are consistent with where my thoughts were at when I wrote about "following the money". Steve wrote...The idea being that if HDR was achievable with the (simple?) insertion/addition of a card to the BS, and with MSM4500 and, down the road, MSM5500 chips, this is not likely to generate lots of warm fuzzy embraces from the infrastructure suppliers, NT, LU or even CSCO (where there is a space for the web routing) because there's not lots of large contracts to be won.

Where does this leave other telco suppliers? The good news qcom is confident about HDR. This should be a concern for all suppliers and very reassuring for the operators (and qcom shareholders).
