You sound very much like the police in Birmingham and Selma who set fire hoses and police dogs on...

I didn't mean to sound like the police. I meant to sound like reasonable person who can see the impending escalation of tension between the cops and protesters and that if I were there, realizing that the cops wouldn't be able to separate me with my legal behaviour from the lawbreakers in whose midst I found myself, I'd be assumed as part of the problem and be mistreated as such.

In their minds, being there merits a clubbing. Wrong? Yes, but my skull would crack the same.

The police had a job to do. They did it. Maybe I'd do it differently. Maybe not. It's hard to say when I'm sipping coffee by the fireplace, secure in my home how I'd respond if given a club and shield and my duty was to stop a crowd from rioting, and perhaps killing me in the process.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. I have never been a police officer. BTW, I haven't ever met one either.
