Don't absolutely know for sure, but in the Merrill-Lynch multimedia presentation (referenced in several earlier posts and highly recommended .. no mandatory .. for any JDSU investors) they stated that they want to supply complete functional modules to the OEM's .. either standard products or custom modules.

I got the impression that these modules included everything between the basic electrical in to the DWDM fiber out or vice versa.

Seems logical, can anyone confirm?

I'm no engineer so I can't give you 100% confirmation. However, one of the big selling features of the UNPH/JDS Fitel merger was the combination of active and passive component manufacturers. At the time, there was a lot of speculation that the merger would enable JDSU as the "one stop shop" for optical components. Presumably, with the capabilities of both firms combined, they can deliver products which will provide both the active and passive attributes from in house resources.
