The dinosaurs dominated the mammals. The mammals didn't get smarter. They were the same at the end of the dinosaurs period of dominance as they were at the beginning .
<< genome needs to survive, not dominate>> They survived but just barely and not at the expense of the dinosaurs. And only because they were of no competition to the dinosaurs. Survival of the fittest means a whole hierarchy of the fittest and the mammals were at the bottom while the dinosaurs were at the top. They had one hundred and fifty million years to demonstrate their superiority. They failed miserably . Once the dinosaurs were gone [due in no way to mammal intelligence ] It only took sixty million years for humans to dominate all other mammals with intelligence .
