Clever. I had a conversation with a senior ad exec about dot com ad spending this quarter. He opined that the ad spending by Internet companies in traditional media outlets this quarter was essentially supporting the ad industry.

All that money has to go somewhere.

It will be interesting to see if these companies really are able to "brand" their sites and build a loyal, repeat customer base. Revenues should leap this quarter, but many will be watching the data for the first quarter of 2000 to determine if these companies get a lasting benefit from all those ad dollars spent.

Of course, in this market, none of that matters. . . .
