Jan thinks our quick in and out strategies keep us safe. I think these do keep us safe but also keep us from making any

Holiday Sales Surge Going Into December

New York (Nov. 1, 1999)?True to analysts' predictions, the holiday selling season is off to a strong start, with jewelry among the leaders of the pack.
Mall-based retail jewelers reported a 10.5% increase in sales in the first weekend of the holiday season.
Preliminary reports show that retail is on the right track for the end of 1999. In the first weekend following the traditional "Black Friday," sales increased 6.3% at specialty retail stores in nation's malls?not far off from pre-season forecasts of an increase of about 6% in overall holiday sales.
"These first sales results indicate a solid beginning to what is poised to be a strong holiday season," said John Konarski, ICSC senior vice president of research.
While online sales are up significantly from last year?as much as 1,000% by some reports?brick-and-mortar retailers are expected to enjoy an overwhelming majority of holiday sales. Online shopping is expected to make up only 1% to 3% of the $180 billion Americans are expected to spend this season.
