I guess SGI was up so sharply on the IBM news of their plans to build the world's largest supercomputer for use in human gene research. . . they are looking to attract heavyweights and expect to take 3 or 4 years in R & D in developing this monster computer. . . which will be designed from the ground up. . .rather than building a farm of mainframes, as has been done in the past.

So the reason SGI soared was speculation on SGI selling off their ailing CRAY division. Cray makes some of the worlds fastest computers. . . using unique designs. . .

One day SGI will find its niche. . . gotta love their investments. . . which are currently worth far more than SGI stock. Watching from the sidelines on this one at this point.
