AlibiDan - Re: ". A few well tuned benchmarks and some programs will show spectacular results, then people will run everything else, and be shocked that real programs don't show the improvements of the benchmarks."

It will be just like the 750 MHz ATHWIPE launch !

RE <<<With Athlon out there, Intel can't afford to handicap Pentium to make Itanium look good. This will probably be a rough transition for Intel - Itanium will be something of a disappointment, at first or permanently. A few well tuned benchmarks and some programs will show spectacular results, then people will run everything else, and be shocked that real programs don't show the improvements of the benchmarks.

Just my opinion and expectation, but then I thought Rambus wouldn't do well back in August, and I thought Athlon would surprise on the upside, so what do I know :-)>>>

Dan, I agree with everything you say and I think itanium will be a disappointment.....its taken too long to pull off and in the meantime too many things have changed.

The main reason for my post, though, was to point out that intc is continuing to crank up the program even though its resulting in misfires. I don't think this thread can forget for one moment what a formidable competitor intc is.

That's all.
