<<It is not a question of greed always being good, but of respecting the right of people to
dispose of their incomes as they see fit. I agree that it is disconcerting and unattractive to
have a dying downtown. However, I would not impose a solution. I have seen many
revitalized downtowns that depend on upscale restaurants and boutiques to attract
shoppers. Sometimes, governments help out, and I personally do not object to a degree
of "pump priming", but the main thrust should be finding
the right mix of businesses to work in the particular situation.......>>

What you are saying seems reasonable on the surface, Neocon, except that when you respect the right of people to dispose of their incomes as they see fit you ARE sanctioning greed as an impulse over any good that come from reasonable regulation, in my opinion. You will have to excuse my admitted bias--I think the planet is suffocating in greed and shortsightedness of all sorts. At least after Seattle, I am happy to see that I am not alone in these beliefs.
