Check out posts 1331 & 1332 for some recent discussion of the patent issue. You can leap from 1331 to the Motley Fool's bull bear debate on VISX.

I think the market is over reacting. Doctors don't change their equipment suppliers readily. They tend to be in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. There is too much at risk for Doctors to change equipment from a proven supplier just to save a few bucks. I've seen this with my Exactech holdings and how difficult it is for them to win over surgeons to their better implant products. They are making headway but it is slow. VISX's business isn't going to dry up overnight as a result of this decision.

Having said that, however, in the market, perception is reality so it may be a question of how much pain can you bear while you wait for perception to align with reality. But then that's how you make big money in the market. You buy when perception is pricing a stock below what reality will eventually demand.
