[Advanced Radio Telecom Elects Robert S. McCambridge President and Chief Operating Officer]

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999--Advanced Radio Telecom Corp., a broadband wireless Internet Protocol service provider (IPSP), today announced that Robert S. McCambridge has been elected president and chief operating officer.

McCambridge, who has been acting as interim and chief executive officer since November 1, will continue in that role until a new chairman and CEO is named. ART also plans to name a CFO replacement soon.

"The ART Board of Directors is extraordinarily confident in Bob's ability to lead the company's operations," said Bandel Carano, an ART director and general partner at Oak Investment Partners. "Bob played a key role in establishing ART's operating strategy and was responsible for securing more than $425 million in growth capital. Taking on the president and COO responsibility is a natural evolution for Bob as ART accelerates its execution phase."

"We value our relationship with ART as part of Qwest's overall objective to provide advanced local broadband communications to business and consumers," said Joseph P. Nacchio, chairman and CEO of Qwest Communications Inc., an ART investor and strategic partner. "We look forward to working with Bob in his new role as we continue to connect ART's local broadband access wireless networks with Qwest's leading-edge nationwide Internet network."

McCambridge joined ART as EVP and CFO in November 1998 with more than 15 years of management experience with technology companies. Before joining ART, McCambridge was executive vice president of OneComm, formerly Cable Plus Holding Company, headquartered in Bellevue, Wash. Prior to OneComm, McCambridge was treasurer and vice president of corporate development for Control Data Corp., where he managed the highly successful restructuring, re-capitalization and growth model that created Ceridian Corp. and Control Data Systems.

Hi Gauguin:

I am not an optical technology expert-- the two persons
you want to interview are Frank Coluccio and Raymond Duray.
Based on comments I have gleaned from lectures I attended,
I would say that the demise of electronic switching
(by opposition with pure optical switching) has
been greatly exaggerated. Nevertheless experts still
predict it will occur.

If you are young, given that Corvis is still private,
and given the astronomical valuations awarded to
anything optical, I would sign up. However, from
a business perspective, expect that competing with
the likes of Lucent will be very challenging.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
