True enough about Eliot. But we forget it was the zeitgeist of the day. Why that is I have no idea. I'd be interested to know more about that. It's interesting that the lefty fashionable writers such as DH Lawrence and...shoot I can't think who else, but there is a lengthy list of anti-Semitic lefty scribblers which I can dig up somewhere around here, are usually omitted from the list of suspects when discussing historical anti-Semitism. What is an anti-Semitic canard? BTW, I have read Belloc's The Jews, and there was nothing in there to indicate anti-Semitism. If he was anti-Semitic don't you think it would have manifested itself in that book?
