I think i got the wrong date, anyway, i really don't understand why stock go up on split announcement??

Shares traded on the Toronto and Montreal stock exchanges will commence trading on a post-split basis at the opening of trading on December 15, 1999. Shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange will commence trading on a ``due- bill' (i.e. non-split) basis at the market opening on December 15, 1999 and on a post-split basis at the market opening on December 22, 1999.
