Lizzie, can I ask why you are trying to buy a house in San Francisco right now? Talk about bad timing!! I absolutely hate commuting, and got spoiled by living here for so many years that the thought of trying to get here on a jammed freeway and a tiny little narrow unreliable bridge just isn't appealing. But if I weren't already spoiled by living here, I would probably look for a house somewhere close by like San Mateo county, where you get a lot more bang for the buck. It is particularly appealing because there is no bridge to cross, unlike Marin County, which is very nice in other ways. And Petaluma definitely has charm.
