More reasons why Novell should be on top of B2B and consumer influences on the development of that marketplace. From one analysts evaluation "Three part relationship: AMS will also resell and implement the Ariba procurement solutions. Additionally, both companies will work to integrate the Ariba solution s into existing AMS federal customer implementations. Furthermore, AMS will enhance the Ariba solutions so that is better supports the public sector procurement processes, integrates with existing financial systems, and handle government financial and procurement systems. AMS will launch, Buysense.com, a marketplace for state and local governments. Buysense.com is a marketplace that will enable state and local governments to leverage their combined buying power. Buysense.com will be based on the Ariba Network and its ORMX application. This will be a AMS hosted web site. AMS will internally implement Ariba's procurement applications and subscribe to the Ariba Network. As such, it will utilize the Ariba Network for its own procurement transactions. Investment Conclusion - This is one of Ariba's initial hosted vertical electronic marketplace announcements. In addition to AMS hosting a public sector electronic marketplace, the integration with AMS existing system potentially brings a very large amount of public sector purchasing power to the Ariba Network. Ariba continues to quietly progress on the electronic marketplace front and we expect to hear more in the near term. Additionally, while electronic marketplaces are capturing significant investor attention, especially recent automotive marketplaces, this has the potential to be a very large marketplace in its own right." ======================== So here is what this is all about in my opinion. They know people know how to go to buy.com or Amazon.com and buy things. So what they are doing is taking that consumer concept and applying it to virtual communities (sound like digitalme yet?) of business customers with the same needs. Thus they will set up a web site accessible by governtment agencies where purchasing managers etc. can go to shop for items. What works in the consumer field is applied to the business to business market. Have I made my point yet to some of those thinkers on this thread who do not understand what is going on with the internet and recommend Novell just sell caching technology and netware? Novell needs to be in this space with its digitalme and e-directory and ichain technologies. If it gets there early, it wins. If it ignores this space like the legacy thinkers want it to do then someone else Microsofts it aside. Incidentally here is a full list of companies that two hustlers have mentioned as BToB possible winners.
