Dr. Moore has proclaimed Siebel as a Gorilla. Equally as important, so has Merlin <kind of>. Nope. Wrong on both counts. :) As for me, I'm waiting to see the results of the ERP vendors' entry into the space since they pose the only remaining possibility of taking over rights to the crown. As for Moore, he never proclaimed Siebel the Gorilla that I remember. Instead, he said all of Silicon Valley had done that. I'm not sure about the extent to which he includes himself in that camp. To appreciate the authors' public opinion, on page 279 of the RFM they mention a CRM "gorilla game in progress," as of the Spring of 1999, clearly implying that the gorilla had yet to be crowned. I don't see that any fundamentlas have changed since then. Just the opposite, the stuff they mention about customer-facing, Internet-based products appears to be more and more important in the upcoming game-playing of potential CRM gorillas. Seeing that you own some shares in Siebel, it would do you well to read their update of the CRM game in the RFM. That's the only part I've read. :) --Mike Buckley
