This negative spin on the Java politics is well, negative spin. Java is there. Java is at critical mass. Java has THICK stacks of magazines on the rack. Sun is making LEAPS into getting their JVM into people's brains. On that StarOffice CD is the JVM. Those are gonna get CARPET BOMBED there and by AOL and others after this M$ turkey is cooked and out of the oven. Sun is getting their JVM and cool new tools (Thomas' Forte/NetBeans) into the Linux space in a big way. Go to Blackdown.org and checkout where the politics REALLY are. We're winning. -JCJ

Very interesting, Michael. SUNW is the leader here, surely. I guess maybe it's more political damage that will result than damage to long-term influence. And political damage is primarily short term (so maybe SUNW will return to my Top 5 soon!)

In any case, I'm not going to stop my frequent trips to Sun's web site because of today's action. I need their work to do my work effectively.

Thinking about IBM--I said earlier they're becoming nimble at following the trend. Now, Microsoft got very good at manipulating "standards" to their own advantage--so, maybe IBM sees an advantage in copying Microsoft's hypocritical "we strictly adhere to universally accepted standards" rhetoric in its current action.

Actually, I love this company vs. company strategizing battles and wars! It makes investing only that much more fun! Who's going to win? The nasty villain, or our dearly beloved hero (who's just as conniving if you look just a bit under the surface!).

Thanks for the alternative view!
