<<Maxtor's new line of drives come in 10, 20, 30 & 40 gb sizes. If a manufacturer of low priced computers
asked Maxtor for prices on a 5 gb drive, Maxtor would probably offer a one head drive. I do not think there is
much market for 5 gb drives because only a few drives that small are offered by the distributors I am watching.

I think the drive manufacturers are clearly thinking higher capacity drives are becoming more popular. That is
what they are building.

That's encouraging that the minimum demanded seems higher. Single platter drives are bad enough. I know both SEG's U-8 and QNTM's Fireball lct are available (according to earlier press releases) in single head configurations. Will have to find out how they are selling.

Mark -

I finally see the SEG U8 hitting the channel… My 1st impression is
not a good one!! This has been the 1st week in a while where I've
seen significant prices drops at the lower caps. Not sure whether
the U8 is the cause or not. Well, maybe it might have to do with the LCT
hitting in force too… For the past month or so I've seen
the MXTR VL series dominate the low prices. Now the U8 and the LCT
have now matched 'em down there. Not surprising I guess...

It'll be interesting to see what you find over the weekend.
