I am not an accountant but my understanding is as follows. Pooling is already prohibited under International Accounting Rules, thus not relevant issue in talking about ALA or Siemanns takeover of NN. There are some strange remarks about how ALA could not use pooling with NN due to ALA share buyback on YAHOO thread that are thus completely irrelevant. Pooling would be of interest short term for a US company (pooling legal for about another year, wonder if retroactive to end of this year???)like CSCO but how CSCO would integrate a corporate/operational mess like NN into its absolutely incredibly efficient and well run business (CFO could give weekly earnings reports with 1 week delay it is said by some) is beyond me.

Does anyone know if goodwill is counted as part of book value, US vs International? Seems like it would be since cash was used to make the purchase of Stanford, and that cash was part of the book value.

Siemanns has raised over 4 billion cash recently from its divesting non strategic assets. They could probably make a cash offer if NN would be part of their strategic plan. Siemanns is evolving into a much more focused company, and I don't know their plan.

Ericsson seems quite busy in other areas.

Are there any Japanese players? YEN is a good 25-30% overvalued wrt Loonie so they would get a great discount.
