Your idea of thinking of young rapidly growing companies as snowballs which can grow is an interesting analogy.

Also found tekboy's idea that it is better to look in high schools to find successful college kids than to look in elementary schools, is a good way to think about young companies. That clearly fit the Q and JDSU last year, who were at least in high school or special post high school classes preparing actively for college.

Of course some of the best candidates may be drop outs - viz. Gates (stretching a point - he dropped out during his freshman year at Harvard).

And some street smart guys (companies) may be the best prospects for success.
