surpow,

The reasons the ERP players remain a significant threat to Siebel:

1) The ERP players are definitely moving into the front office space.

2)They've got more human and financial resources than Siebel. (As examples, SAP has almost ten times as much revenue as Siebel while Oracle, if I remember correctly, has more programmers than Siebel has employees of all kinds.)

3) The ERP players have a long list of customers already using their back-office products.

4) The ERP players have the advantage of being able to offer front-office products connected to back-office products all from the same vendor, without having to use third-party middleware.

5) Some of the ERP players might be further along than Siebel in having Web-based products.

Also, out of curiosity, do you view the potential lack of merger b/w TVGIA and GMST as a reason to wait to invest (further) in GMST?

No, I don't. Should the merger not be allowed, the two companies already have a contingency agreement in place that will greatly benefit Gemstar's bottom line. That agreement concedes Gemstar as the owner of the proprietary technology.
