***OFF TOPIC****

Two quick SSB stories -In the bathroom 2 urinals stalls over from a guy who is on a cell phone getting quotes -
Time 10:15. So I ask him if he could ask about Ancor- He says 78 and I had no idea as Alan and I had been listening to Brocade all morning. Well my pants stayed dry but now I'm supposed to meet Alan at Emulex which has just started and I can't tell him because emulex is talking so I write ANCR 78 on his pad - I whisper "I'm going to find out why -BRB." I thought he was about to go to piss in his pants and next thing I know, Alans out in the hall unable to listen to EMLX-
I think he went to call his wife - It was a good Ancor moment.

Talking about Ancor with some fund manager and some guy overhears us and starts yucking it up with us. Fund manager leaves and Alan comes back from his phone call and this other guy still yucking it up "You guys have scars on your back from owning Ancor so long" Well congrats now. Meanwhile we are still trying to find out about why Ancor is 78(we are the only 2 people out of 500 that hasn't a clue apparently). After 10 minutes he says -Didn't I mention Ancor and INTEL- We both said NO and look at him like huh!!! as Ken and Steve walk right for this guy and shake his hand and the guy introduces us to Ken and Steve like he knows us his whole life and all of a sudden we're all on first name basis and got to chat with them about Intel and other Ancor stuff for 15 minutes.

I warned you it was OT

Below is a small except from SSB's own notes regarding the conference. Respect for property rights prohibits me from posting the entire article. SSB's notes covered only companies at the conf whom SSB covers. ANCR was not mentioned. Pay particular attention to the parenthetical reference to ZOOX's new products.

Salomon Smith Barney ~ December 9, 1999

--SUMMARY:----Computer Storage
*On December 7, 26 companies presented the Storage Area Network
(SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) components of their
businesses to over 400 investors at our annual SAN/NAS conf.
*We came away from the day with an increased reassurance of our
current company positioning...

Brocade
-------
Greg Reyes, president and CEO, and Mike Byrd, CFO, gave an upbeat presentation of Brocade's current and future market potential. We believe Brocade has one of the best product roadmaps in storage networking. Further, we believe Brocade has demonstrated the ability to consistently deliver excellent products that meet customer needs
exceptionally well.

We believe Brocade will remain on the forefront of the storage networking market as a result of its superb management team and strong product offering.

(We have recently initiated coverage on Brocade. Please refer to our recent reports for further details.)

Gadzoox
-------
Cris Munson, CFO, gave a realistic and upbeat presentation of Gadzoox
current market position and future product road map. Cris walked through
Gadzoox history of becoming the dominant managed hub supplier and the
company's focus on new products (such as Capellix FC-AL switch) which are
viewed as the future of the company.

We believe that Gadzoox has demonstrated a keen ability to understand and
meet customers needs. Although we believe storage networking has moved
forward a little quicker than Gadzoox could migrate their products (to a
fabric switch), we believe Gadzoox has beefed up R&D efforts to increase
its product portfolio.

(We have recently initiated coverage on Gadzoox. Please refer to our
recent reports for further details.)
