Mq, most WWeb information that people need on their wireless devices can be comfortably obtained at 14kbps. It seems to me that, for example, the Palm VII with its web clipping service and its 14kbps speed meets most wireless information needs with minimal impact to voice bandwidth. Given the well publicized service problems of mobile operators, including to a lesser extend CDMA ones, I don't see HDR-like data speeds becoming mainstream any time soon, say, in the next 4 years.

<<Not for idle browsing and goofing off, but certainly for 'I need some information and I want it NOW'>>

You are 100% right with this. i was in this situation this morning. on the way to a jobsite i heard the news about the erricson/microsoft news confrence. i was in a panic knowing i would be unable to get online and access SI or news articles.
had to keep calling in for quotes on Q to judge the impact of the news confrence.

Web phones are a must, unless you stay in one place all day, everyday.
