Galahad, the strength of the patents is the issue, not the number of them. Dell has many patents, but they aren't sufficient to make them their sector's rule maker. Do any of jdsu's patents give them ownership of an open standard that is central to the fiber business? That would be a better litmus test. We might ask the same question about ntap and emc as well.
