DJ VeriSign CEO Sees Internet Security As A Future Utility

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Web security service will be known as a utility in the future,
according to VeriSign Inc. (VRSN) Chief Executive Stratton Sclavos.

"Think of us as a new age utility," he told CNBC Wednesday. "We're sitting there 24
hours a day, seven days a week, making sure everything you're doing is secure and
everybody you're dealing with is identified. You're using us every day and don't even
know it."

Sclavos said the security industry is "just starting in the infancy," with VeriSign taking
"maybe a 1% to 2% penetration of "a several billion dollar market."

The Mountain View, Calif., company provides security as an online service in contrast to
competitors that provide it via software. VeriSign posted its first quarterly profit in the
third quarter, a trend Sclavos hopes will continue.
