Newbridge Networks joins UUNET€s VPN Vendor Alliance Program

TimeStep Secure VPN solution from Newbridge Networks
receives €UUNET Tested€ seal of compatibility

Kanata, Ontario, December 8, 1999 Newbridge Networks (NYSE:
NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that its TimeStep Secure VPN
(virtual private network) solution has been awarded the
€UUNET Tested€ seal of compatibility through UUNET€s VPN
Vendor Alliance Program. The €UUNET Tested€ seal of
compatibility ensures that the TimeStep VPN solution has
been tested to operate with the UUNET global network.

€The VPN Vendor Alliance Program extends UUNET€s portfolio
of VPN solutions to meet the demanding and changing needs of
businesses today,€ said Skip Taylor, director of product
marketing, dial VPNs, UUNET. €Ideal for enterprises that
want to manage their own VPN solutions, the Alliance Program
identifies industry leaders that offer innovative VPN
technology.€

€UUNET believes the VPN Vendor Alliance Program is an
innovative approach for our customers, Newbridge Networks,
and the industry,€ continued Taylor. €We€re pleased to
award the €UUNET Tested€ designation to Newbridge Networks
for the TimeStep solution and we welcome Newbridge into our
VPN Vendor Alliance Program.€

The objective of the VPN Vendor Alliance Program is to
promote VPN vendors, such as Newbridge Networks, as well as
the VPN industry as a whole. As many companies are looking
for cost effective solutions for remote access, intrants and
extranets, Virtual Private Networking via the Internet has
become a viable and cost effective alternative.

To meet the demands of its business customers, UUNET€s VPN
Alliance program offers the following benefits to the end
user:
- Customer referrals € When UUNET customers wish to build
their own VPN solution, UUNET will refer them to an
appropriate vendor in the Alliance Program, such as
Newbridge Networks;
- Compatibility testing € UUNET has tested certain features
of each vendor€s products for compatibility with the UUNET
network;
- Name recognition € End users trust UUNET€s reputation for
enterprise Internet communications solutions.

€We are pleased to have the €UUNET Tested€ seal of
compatibility on our VPN product suite. This identification
further establishes the Newbridge leadership position within
the service provider marketplace,€ said Pearse Flynn,
President and COO, Newbridge Networks.

In order to become a member of UUNET€s VPN Vendor Alliance
Program, the TimeStep solution from Newbridge Networks was
rigorously tested for compatibility with the global UUNET
network. Evaluation tests included: features, circuit
