The inaugural mission for the second PROBE 1 was over the equatorial cloud forests of Rwanda, which are home to the mountain gorillas studied by the late Dian Fossey. National Geographic, in association with The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, filmed the first scientific studies of the mountain gorillas in years which were possible only after the cessation of hostilities in the area.
