toysmart.com Selects Cabletron Systems to
Power E-Commerce

ROCHESTER, N.H. and WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999--

Layer 3 SmartSwitch Routers (SSRs) Process Online Holiday Shopping

Orders at Gigabit Speeds

Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS - news) today announced that toysmart.com, the Internet's leading site for
``good toys,' has selected Cabletron's high-performance networking solutions to power e-commerce orders,
customer information and corporate data for its 24 x 7 web-based operations.

``We selected Cabletron as the key provider of toysmart.com's network based on the SmartSwitch Router's
Layer 3 wire-speed routing and Gigabit Ethernet support,' said James Hutchinson, manager of network
operations at toysmart.com. ``With the holiday shopping season upon us, having a single vendor to provide a
reliable network solution in a short time frame was critical. Cabletron was able to provide that solution - and
was also very price competitive.'

With its new high-performance network in place, toysmart.com is well positioned to handle high volume
data flow from online holiday shopping. Computerworld magazine recently reported that a survey by
Shop.org and The Boston Consulting Group predicts online retailers will take in $9 billion in revenue
between November 1 and December 31 this year, up from $3.5 billion in 1998.

``The Cabletron products have allowed us to scale up network performance with the exponential growth of
our business,' Hutchinson added. ``Cabletron's support for SNMP, RMON, and extensive TCP routing
support enable us to modify network segments as our business requirements have changed; sometimes on
an hourly basis.'

The Cabletron solution, which was implemented through Concord Information Systems, includes SSR
8600s, SSR 2000s and SmartSwitch 6000s. The new network provides advanced Layer 3 switching and
Gigabit Ethernet at the network core, with 10/100 switched Fast Ethernet to desktop users.

``This partnership further highlights Cabletron's commitment to e-business,' said Romulus Pereira, chief
operating officer of Cabletron Systems. ``Infrastructure solutions fully aligned with the needs of .com, web
hosting and application hosting companies are critical for maximizing their competitive advantage.'
