there is certainly some turmoil still at CPQ but they seem to be pulling better - at least it looks to me like a coherent policy which addresses the core business problems in a way which looks like it will work.

The issue of layoffs has been one of my big concerns since the acquisition of DEC and I am still concerned. I would have expected announcement of a fairly substantial restructuring by this time. Watching and waiting...

The management of the channel both in the US and in Europe seems to be the biggest problem in reducing cost of goods sold, one of the areas where the company said it would produce results. I guess you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs but there is certainly the possibility of sales impact. I would expect that such an impact would have been factored in at least by the company, as this change has been in the works for a while.
