Unfortunately, this paternalism is common to many; this has been one of the reasons I have mostly moved from Schwab; I've talked to their Customer Service several times and the usual response is that I am too ignorant to understand the need for this security feature (not so phrased, but there is an undertone that implies that I don't understand).

First Amex trade a bad experience. Could not trade online, had to go through customer service. I knew I filled but my screen showed no open orders, no trades for hours afterward.
Finally got through on phone, learned I had filled almost
immediately. Rep apologized---"too much volume in response to promotions." Lousy excuse--- they should have been sure of capacity before they went overboard on promotions. Am considering cutting them off if they don't improve pronto.
