To assist in your search for barriers for JDSU, I appealed to an expert who used to post regularly on the JDSU board. As he has not been posting since mid-November, I asked him via private message to come over here to discuss the topic on this board; this is his response:

Thanks for the note. I have scaled way back on spending time on SI due to the dramatic fall-off in intelligent posts. It seems this bull market brings out everybody and I just don't have the time or the will to 'educate' the masses.

JDSU indeed has many barriers to entry - among them domain expertise, optical engineers, manufacturing facilities, yield experience, end-end product suites, satisfied and repeat customers, low-cost producer, brand name, and the incredible time it takes to qualify new products. This does not mean they have no competitors - they do, such as NT, LU, SDLI, ETEK, GLW, and many others. CSCO had many competitors in the early days - it eventually gobbled everybody up and went on to dominate the mkt. JDSU is doing the same. Neverthless, at this time, there is plenty of business to go around for many years.

Perhaps you can educate the threads for me. Best of luck.

Me again: As I have yet to RTFM (hell, trying to keep up with the thread is enough), I am not allowed to comment as to Kingdom vs. Gorillahood. However, I can note that when Bulldozer speaks of an incredible time to qualify new products, he talks of "years" in order to pass the critical tests needed for the marketing of the product.

Hope this helps in your search.
