I've been reading this with interest. Has the possibility of a random killer been discarded? Someone she might have known peripherally, who offered her a lift? Who then put unwanted moves on her, she got out of the car, he followed, the rest you know. Maybe the first blow stunned or killed her, so there would be no defense wounds. The killer fled in his car into the night, etc. In this scenario, the killer most likely would have committed another crime, may be in jail as we speak on another charge.
Another possibility, along the lines of a crime committed in our area: she interrupted by chance something the other(s) present did not want known, and this led to her demise. An illicit act of some sort.
I'm just throwing this out.
