Microsoft's recognized record of "date rape" with business partners will severely inhibit them as they attempt to establish new relationships outside their home turf for a long list of date rape victims see "Hard Drive" it is an unauthorized biography of Gates and Microsoft it is a shameful horrendous series of business partners date rape: - initialize contact with intention of next generation product with firm who is in command of a product - toss a few million$ their way and court them - introduce them to your application folks - these appl folks used to work in system software last week - promise many more million$ - show partner worthless application sw as good faith gesture - ask partner to show their precious code - if they renege, give them more cash - if they reveal code, then dont call them for a month - meanwhile, integrate their code in with Windows and make a next generation product - back out of the deal - release new product in a few months I call it date rape since it requires the partner to lift her skirt upon coercion shameful... for a few years nobody would do business with Microsoft... then in 1995 MSFT acquired FoxPro for its database sw, which is one helluvalot better than shitty Access... that represented MSFT's first acquisition in its history later, MSFT learned the fine art of predatory pricing... they bundled software into its shitty Windows o/s... when doing so, they bought the most mediocre in class utility sw to handle many things... in some cases they simply asked for donated utility sw, and did not purchase it at all it is predatory pricing because the competitive price is zero... e.g. browser, defragmentation, memory mgmt, anti-virus now MSFT wants to partner again... the world knows their MO, their mediocrity, their abusive practices Microsoft sucks / Jim
